Tenuous

Near a hot spring in the Sierras I found this pine tree attempting to stabilize itself and the very loose soil and rocks around it with its complex system of roots. Its hold on the steep slope seemed tenuous, although it had lived there for a very long time. Graphite on Arches 88 paper.
